Are you struggling with diaper changing?
There have been so many meme and jokes about how moms struggle during diaper changes as their babies grow 6 months+. It almost seems like a scene from a wrestling ring :D but let’s talk about the science behind this behaviour shown by your baby.
Well as your baby is growing up he now hates to be in a supine position or we call it laying on his back. His body is looking for gross motor developments like sitting, standing, crawling. Diaper time can be just that activity where you can encourage your baby to experience all these skills. Try this routine if your baby can stand by for a longer time.
Whenever you are about to change diapers, make your baby stand by with support. Make sure they have balance while standing, do keep all the supplies near to you. This is to make sure that you don’t leave your baby unsupervised.
Steps you can take while changing diaper:
- Make your baby like to be a part of the process. You can ask them to pull wipes from the container and choose their next diaper.
- Talk them through what’s happening,“Your diaper is dirty, mommy will change it for you.”
- Teach your baby to squat while you clean their bottom, or help them lift one leg at a time.
- Wash your hands together to complete the process
